What is a BookRenter.co.nz?
Book Renter is New Zealand's first, only and number one textbook rental service!
Are the textbooks mine to keep?
Unfortunately no; we can only offer at least a 50% discount off the the University book shop list price by multiple students using / renting the same textbook. You are renting the textbook for your university year and then returning it back to BookRenter.co.nz (free shipping!!) for other students to use. Share the love and in this case, the textbook!
What is the lengths of the rental period?
The rental period for all textbooks starts on the 20th day of January and ends on the 20th day of December each year. Textbooks can be rented for a shorter period however no further discounts apply. Please note textbooks offered for Summer School courses will have a rental period beginning the day the book is posted to you and last for a period of 6 months.
Can I buy textbooks from BookRenter.co.nz?
Yes, you sure can. Just send us an emailing confirming that you would like to purchase them and we will charge your credit card the full list price as advertised on BookRenter.co.nz.
How do I search?
Enter the textbooks Title, Author, ISBN, EAN, or a keyword into the search field for a basic search. ISBN or EAN will always give you the most accurate results (don't include any dashes / lines and just search either a 10 or 13 digit number).
If the textbook I want to rent comes with an online access code/key/card/etc, will it work?
Supplemental materials of any kind are not guaranteed to come with your textbook unless you choose the New Textbook add-on for an extra $5 per textbook.
Are there any membership fees?
No, BookRenter.co.nz does not charge any membership or subscription fees.
Do I get my money back when I return my rental?
Since you only pay for a fraction of the total textbook's cost, no money is returned to your credit/debit card once we get your rental back on time.
What forms of payment can I use?
Currently, you must use a credit or debit card to rent from BookRenter.co,nz. We accept credit and debit cards that are from MasterCard or Visa.
Is the information I submit secure?
Anytime you submit private information (e.g. name, address, or credit/debit card number) on our website you will see the padlock symbol at the top and bottom of the page. This indicates that a SSL certificate and a secure connection is in place.
How do I track my textbook order?
This service will be implemented towards the end of 2012. Just email us if you want to know anything.
Can I check my previous orders?
Yes. Go to the My Books page under the My Account section. This summarizes all your past orders, what's in your shopping cart and the textbooks that you have bookmarked.
Can I cancel an order I've recently placed?
Because BookRenter.co.nz tries to process and ship your order as quickly as possible, the majority of orders cannot be cancelled once placed. Please email us immediately if you need to cancel your textbook rental order and we will see if we can help.
How long does it take for my textbooks to arrive?
You should receive your textbooks within 10 to 15 days with our standard shipping. You can choose Priority Shipping at check out if you need to get the textbook sooner. Priority Shipping costs an extra $5 per textbook and reduces the expected shipping time to 5 to 10 days.
It's a few days past my delivery estimate, will I be getting my order soon?
We will let you know if your textbooks are running late. Due to delivery times being approximations, your order is not guaranteed to arrive as indicated. Email us if you have any questions about your order.
Can I pick up my order?
To save costs and offer you guys the sharpest price BookRenter.co.nz does not offer a pick up service.
What should I do if my textbook arrives in a damaged condition?
To notify us of damage that occurred in transit or from previous use please contact BookRenter.co.nz within 3 days of your order being delivered via email. Another textbook will be shipped to you pronto!.
What happens if I lose my textbook?
You are responsible for returning the textbook at the end of your rental period. If you are unable to do so, you will be charged 100% of the textbook's recommended retail price as per our website, minus your rental costs. Once you are charged, you opt out of the rental agreement and the book becomes your property.
What happens if my textbook is damaged during my rental period?
Textbooks are required to be kept in good condition while in your possession. If you damaged the textbook and it is rendered unusable, it will remain the property of BookRenter.co.nz and you will be charged 100% of the textbook's recommended retail price as per our website, minus your rental costs. Supplementary materials such as CDs, DVDs, access codes, inserts, workbooks, study guides, etc. included with your book must be returned.
I didn't get the textbook I ordered, what can I do?
Opps!! Please contact BookRenter.co.nz via email within 3 days of your order being delivered to let us know that you received the wrong book. We will send the correct one out; our apologies.
Can I write or highlight in my textbook?
Not unless you take the Textbook Insurance option at check out for an extra $5 per textbook.
How do I keep my textbooks in good condition?
Read your books with clean hands, don't eat or drink around your textbooks, use bookmarks (not dog ears) and do not lie textbooks face down.
How do you set the price for converting a rental to a purchase?
To calculate this, take 100% of the book's retail price (RRP on our website), minus your rental costs excluding add-ons.
Can I buy my rented textbooks?
Yes, you can! If you like your textbooks, we encourage you to buy them. Your rental price will go towards the purchase of the textbook. To purchase a book you are currently renting, please contact BookRenter.co.nz via email - you will be charged 100% of the book's recommended retail price as per the the price on BookRenter.co.nz, minus your rental costs.
How do I return my textbooks when I'm done?

Will you send me a reminder when my rental is due?
Yes, we will send you a reminder a month or so before you need to return it.
Are there any late fees if I forget about returning my textbooks?
We know that sometimes students have better things to do that return stuff. If you are late, please send us an email and get in touch with us immediately so we know what is happening.
Can I order from anywhere in the world?
We currently only serve customers living in New Zealand.
Does BookRenter.co.nz buy used textbooks?
Currently BookRenter.co.nz does not buy books from customers.
